Nottingham Book Festival is a brand new initiative organised by authors across the East Midlands to bring readers and writers together.
A full day of talks, workshops, book stalls to browse and one-to-one sessions with professionals from the world of books and publishing, the festival is designed for anyone who loves books, reading or writing.
The East Midlands, and Nottinghamshire in particular, has a remarkable and well-deserved reputation for literature. Historically, D H Lawrence, Alan Sillitoe, Lord Byron, Helen Cresswell, and even Graham Greene and J M Barrie had links with Nottingham, having begun their journalistic careers with the Nottingham Daily Journal. Those are just of the a few of the exceptional and inspired authors who generated this region’s prominence in the literary field.
More recently, writers of consequence, of whom many readers already know, are John Harvey, Robert Harris, Elizabeth Chadwick, Stephen Booth, Clare Harvey, Nicola Monaghan, William Ivory, Cathy Bramley and Jon McGregor. And there are dozens, if not hundreds more, you may not know and the Nottingham Book Festival has been created to address this. The East Midlands is blessed with a tremendous wealth of literary talent, and it is our pleasure, and indeed our mission, to bring some of these wonderful authors to the attention of the reading public, and to inspire and support aspiring writers.
The Nottingham Book Festival is proud to showcase a wide range of talented authors who would otherwise have little opportunity to receive wider recognition, and will also benefit readers who would like to discover new authors to read.
In addition, the festival gives the East Midlands Book Fest committee an opportunity to support two local charities, and promote awareness for their causes.
Phenomenal Futures: A community interest company (CIC) based in Nottingham, providing specialist services for people affected by domestic abuse and trauma. With a dedicated team of specialists and over 15 years of working in the field, they are passionate about supporting people to heal from their experiences.
Children’s Bereavement Centre: Grief changes everything. At Child Bereavement UK we support grieving children and young people, and parents bereaved of a baby or child, to find hope and rebuild their lives.
We are tremendously grateful to Broadway Cinema, Nottingham who are supporting our book festival by allowing us to use their accommodation as our venue.
